LA Champion Area: Case Study Portsmouth City

Portsmouth City were looking for solution to support their schools and colleges with diversity, inclusion and well-being.

Initially a pilot of two schools became GEC members to evaluate impact. Due to the success of this, the city commission Dfe PEIA (Priority Education Investment Area) funding to offer their schools a fully-funded offer to across the region. This was launched in January 2024 and completes in March 2025.

Our multi-award-winning inclusivity platform, GEC Platform (designed by school leaders for school leaders) allows PEP schools to take a close look at the current culture of inclusivity and well-being in their schools, analyse the needs of their staff and student bodies and provides you with an array of tools to enable you to make it a truly inclusive space for learners and staff. The local authority is able to access this data, offer an award-winning approach to school leaders and scale school improvement as a result.

The Portsmouth journey to becoming a GEC Champion Area

Continuing the journey

Around half of the schools signed up within 3 months. School leaders across Portsmouth are currently using the GEC Platform to gain an analytical advantage when it comes to their cultures. This begins with leadership surveys, before staff and student voices are captured (anonymously).

In additions to this, Portsmouth SCITT wanted to get their GEC on and quickly joined to better train their ECTS. GEC Founder Nic Ponsford ran a session for the 2023/24 teacher trainees and has now also run an in-person Headteacher network meeting to continue the conversation (see image).
