Bio:

From Darkness to Light and Beyond 

Joanne transitioned at the age of 58 having been born male. After her transition she became passionate about supporting the Transgender community and other minority communities advocating for lives free of hate and discrimination. She is proud supporter for gender equality. 

She is a previous winner of the Diversity Category for the 2020 Rising Star Awards and in the 2021 New Year Honours list, she was recognised with an OBE for services to Transgender Equality as a Global LGBT Advocate and Independent Advisor from our late Queen. She has  both a certificate of recognition,  and a certificate of Commendation from the Chief Constable of Sussex Police. 

Her Education Business is called From Darkness to Light and Beyond.  She talks to organisations, colleges, universities and schools about her life and the importance of Allyship , understanding Unconscious bias  and discrimination, and the history of Pride and its relevance in modern society

She is a proud Insights speaker for a well known prestigious and high end cruise line, an Independent Advisor to Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue,  South East Coast Ambulance Service and a volunteer for the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Charity. She is also an Ambassador for 4 national organisations.
