Regardless of one’s plans for the future, many careers are shaped by a series of chance encounters, experiences, and serendipitous moments. School, college, university, jobs, family, sports, hobbies, friends, relationships—all of these are fertile grounds for career-related conversations and explorations. What if we, as teachers, guides, mentors, parents, and peers, began to recognize these seemingly unconnected events and, indeed, started to engineer and encourage them to happen?
With the mantra "every adult is a careers teacher," The Ladder aims to inspire educators to explicitly connect their subject areas to students’ futures, both within the classroom and beyond. Bernie draws upon his 30-year career in education and business development to provide clarity, focus, and innovative ideas for educators on how to best guide students on their personal ladders to success.
Ultimately, Bernie’s goal in writing this book is to bring young people's futures to life through personal skills reflection and forward planning, helping them embark on fulfilling futures—regardless of their upbringing, academic achievements, or ethnic background.
