This is the first in a new series of Global Equality Collective webinars for 2023.
Join us for practical session on tackling Tate and Radical Misogyny in schools. Founder of the GEC, Nic Ponsford, will be joined members of the Global Equality Collective:
Matt Pinkett is a Head of English in Surrey and author of ‘Boys Don’t Try? Rethinking Masculinity in Schools’. He has a personal and professional interest in gender in schools. Matt has written for a number of publications on this topic – and others – and also writes a blog in which he discusses teaching and masculinity.
Bernie, or Andrew Bernard to his mum, was an underachiever at school. The tragic and powerful story of Bernie's sister, Sarah Gosling –- murdered by her partner Ian Hope in 2012 –- shows how coercive control and domestic abuse can start and escalate within relationships. Bernie is an expert in helping people to recognise domestic abuse and coercive control, appreciate the damaging nature of its portrayal in the media and ‘entertainment’, know what to do if they (or someone they know) experiences it, and finally challenging our young men to stop the cycle of violence whilst educating girls on the ‘red flags’ to look out for.
Aisling O'Donnell will be representing Votes for Schools. Former Secondary teacher and current Head of Student Programmes and Deputy Head of Content at VotesforSchools, Aisling has created lessons and written advice to help teachers tackle online misogyny and incel culture in the classroom.
Votes for Schools are THE #1 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT RESOURCE FOR SCHOOLS. Giving young people the chance to speak out on issues that matter to them, improving oracy, confidence and critical thinking and covering all British Values, SMSC and Prevent Curricula and GEC partners, they have been covering this topic with their student voters.
With opportunities to ask questions of the panel and get key takeaways, this session is open to teachers, school leaders, educators and parents alike. Aimed at 11-18 year settings/ schools and colleges.
